3 Drills to Improve your Ball Control at Home 🏡

If you’re trying to improve your ball control but don’t have access to proper equipment or a field - don’t worry about it.

You can still do loads of effective drills at home with minimal resources.

In fact, some of the best football players like Ibrahimović and Suarez grew up without having this luxury.

With that said, here are 3 simple training drills you can do at home without any equipment - just you, a ball, and a wall.

A. Wall Rebound Control - Low

First, you have to find yourself a wall. This could be in your basement, your garden, the garage or a place near your home.

Now shoot/pass the ball toward a wall and control the rebounding ball.

Keep the ball low to the ground and control it both with your right and your left foot.

Once the ball is secured repeat the process.

Variant A:

When you start feeling more and more confident in your control, try to add a countermovement before receiving the ball, exactly like you would do in a match/training.

Variant B:

To enhance the drill and make it more match-realistic, dribble the ball to a certain position after you’ve controlled it. Then return to your previous position and repeat.

B. Wall Rebound Control - High

First, go back to your wall.

Now try to pass/lop the ball high against the wall and control the rebounding ball.

To control the ball try using your chest, thighs, and/or feet and try to bring the ball back to the ground as fast as you can.

To make it a bit easier, let the ball bounce once before controlling the ball.

And to make it harder and more match-realistic, try to add the variations from the drill above.

C. High Juggling

For this drill, you just need a bit of space outside and a ball.

Stand in a small circle and juggle the football without stepping outside the circle.

Every couple of seconds kick the ball high into the air and control the incoming ball.

Then continue juggling and repeat.
