When Ronaldo first made his mark on professional football at 17 years old, playing for Sporting Lisbon, he wore the number 28.
But once Manchester United swooped in to buy him a year later, Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to give young Ronaldo the number 7 shirt.
Ronaldo was initially unsure about taking it, considering the pressure that can come with it.
But Sir Alex had belief that he would go on to be as great as previous players who had worn that number, such as Eric Cantona and David Beckham.
And so Ronaldo was convinced and hasn’t looked back since.
And has now also created his brand ‘CR7’ around the number he always wears.
