When Palmer was a youngster, he was very clearly smaller than most of his teammates and opponents, so he’d say to his dad that he wants to work on his strength and get bigger.

But his dad would refuse, and said that instead he needs to work on his technique and skill while he’s small.

That way, as he grows older and gets bigger, he’ll catch up in size but he’ll have better technique than those around him.

And actually referred to how Pep Guardiola’s midfielders weren’t all big and strong, but they were technically elite.

Then joked with young Palmer in saying that if he continues as he is, he’ll play for Guardiola one day.

Not knowing that years later, he actually would go on to make his debut under Guardiola at Man City.
