Footballers are often known to cut off the bottom part of their socks, leaving only the part which covers their shin and calves, and do so for several reasons.

Firstly for comfort, long football socks aren’t always the most comfortable selection on your feet, therefore players often replace them for better and more grippy socks.

Another reason is for performance, wearing a sock which goes from your feet and sometimes all the way up to your knees can prove to be more restrictive than you may think, cutting off the bottom provides better freedom of movement, making it easier to run, jump and move quicker.

Lastly, some footballers actually also do it for a sense of personalisation on the pitch, for example rather than wearing an all blue or red sock like everyone else on their team, they’ll cut the bottom half and instead wear a black or white sock, to maybe match with their boots!
