The rapidly rising standards of the women's game has led to more competition, and more games being played, which can often lead to fatigue and injuries.
And the ACL injury is one which has become very common, in fact, experts have found that female players are seven times more likely than male players to sustain an ACL injury.
One of the potential explanations is the difference in the angle of the tibia bone, which means that female players tend to have less curved legs than male players.
Their legs are usually more straight which can be a major risk factor.
But it could also come down to how the players are nurtured.
Because in male football, you’ll often see players who have been coached and taken care of from a very young age.
Whereas that is a lot less common in female football, so when they reach highly competitive levels, their bodies aren’t as prepared for the impact.
So perhaps as the women's game gains more financial backing and support, this is a problem we’ll see much less of in the future.
